Why does Backpack Bed for Homeless partner with homeless agencies instead of distributing directly?

We work through established services such as:

  • Crisis accommodation providers

  • Street doctors

  • Outreach workers

  • Homeless support services

1. Connecting People to Long-Term Support

By distributing through local homeless agencies, individuals are connected to professional support services — not just emergency bedding.

This creates the opportunity for:

  • Case management

  • Health support

  • Housing assistance

  • Ongoing care and referrals

Our goal is not only to provide emergency protection, but also to help connect people to longer-term solutions.

2. Fair and Accountable Distribution

Partner agencies assess need on the ground and distribute Backpack Beds to people without shelter.

There is no cost to the homeless person.

This ensures fair allocation and accountability.

3. National Coverage

By working with agencies Australia-wide, we can:

  • Bulk ship efficiently

  • Reach metropolitan, regional, and remote areas

  • Respond to local demand

However, demand exceeds what we can fundraise each year, so not all areas are stocked at all times.
